How long does it take for dry cleaning to be done?
Typically, a standard dry cleaning service takes around 2-3 days to be completed, depending on the item and the service requested.
What types of items should be dry cleaned?
Dry cleaning is recommended for items that cannot be machine washed without being damaged, such as those made of delicate fabrics or with intricate embellishments. This includes but is not limited to suits, dresses, coats, silk, cashmere, and wool garments. It is always best to check the care label of the item to see if dry cleaning is recommended.
Common colour changes that can occur during dry cleaning?
1. Soluble dyes: Some dyes used in garments can dissolve during dry cleaning, causing colours to fade or change. If different dyes have been used in a garment and only one of them is soluble, it can result in a dramatic colour change. For example, if a yellow dye component of a green garment were to break down, you could be left with a blue garment. Unfortunately, there is no way to predict this beforehand. 2. Fading: Household items such as bedspreads and curtains can also experience fading during dry cleaning. Sometimes, the fading is not noticeable until compared with a matching item. To ensure colour uniformity, we recommend dry cleaning or laundering all matching items at the same time. 3. Light exposure: Most dyes eventually fade with exposure to sun or artificial light. Colours may fade more rapidly on exposed areas of garments such as shoulders, collars, and sleeves. Blue, green, and lavender dyes used on silk or wool fabrics are particularly sensitive to fading due to light exposure.

Invisible stains aka "The stain was not there before"
In some cases, stains may become visible after dry cleaning, leading to frustration and confusion. This occurrence can be best explained using the example of an apple: when an apple is cut in half, the air causes it to oxidize and turn brown. Similarly, many stains can be colourless at the time of contact with the fabric, and after a period of time, they absorb oxygen from the air and develop into a visible stain. Invisible stains can occur on any fabric or garment due to a manufacturer defect in the optical or fluorescent whitening agent applied to the fabric. When this agent begins to break down as a result of exposure to light, gases, or cleaning solutions, yellowing can result. Unfortunately, this problem cannot be corrected and can only be prevented by the manufacturer using stable brighteners. Please note that Ironing Fairy will not be held liable if this occurs.
